There has a series of patches proposed in Linux kernel mailing list earlier by a team of engineers from Red Hat, ClusterFS, IBM and Bull to extend the Ext3 filesystem to add support for very large filesystems. After a longwinded discussion, the developers come forward with a plan to roll this changes into a new version – Ext4.

Imagine a world where the next generation of computers isn’t a hundred times faster and a lot more expensive than the one you just bought. Intel Corp this week quietly began shipping a new version of its Core Duo microprocessor that runs at a speed of 2.33 GHz. The 65-nanometer chip lands atop the company’s line of Core Duo “Yonah” processors, which have found their way into Apple Computer’s iMac, Mac mini, MacBook and MacBook Pro line computers.
