NeoOffice, the free Mac-native office suite based on OpenOffice.org, has gone Aqua. Now it’s even more “Mac-like” than ever. The Alpha-3 release is now available for free on the NeoOffice website. This is an alpha release, which means there can be bugs, but in my experience, NeoOffice alpha releases have been very stable. Filed under: Applications and Mac Comments: 1 Comment

“Two whistleblowers one in Italy, one in Greece uncovered a secret bugging system installed in cell phones around the world. Both met with untimely ends. The resultant scandals have received little press in the United States, despite the profound implications for American critics of the Bush administration.” Filed under: General Comments: None

Okay, so no one cares about biz/info. But variable pricing allows them to charge whatever they want for .org. Net neutrality meets domain names. Got a successful site on .org? Get ready to be gouged. Worst of all, if this goes through, expect Verisign to start lobbying for variable pricing on .com Filed under: General Comments: 1 Comment

Currently you must be signed into the Google Talk application for it to show up, but hopefully soon the feature will be available to users who don’t have the instant messenger installed. The news finally gets better for Sun Microsystems. For years it has been losing money and market share, but IDC’s recent report shows that Sun was the only one of the big 4 server sellers (the others being IBM, HP and Dell) to gain share in the 2nd quarter of 2006. In fact it passed Dell to move into 3rd place. Could this be a Sun turn around? Filed under: General Comments: None

Remember all that talk of Creative beating Apple to the punch with patenting various elements of the iPod’s UI? Today these talks came to an end, with Apple whipping out the checkbook, and Creative (I’m assuming) throwing a party. That’s right: Apple has shelled out USD $100 million to Creative for a paid-up license. Filed under: Mac and Music Comments: 1 Comment
