Apple fires retail store employees who admit to downloading Leopard

At least five employees of Apple’s retail stores have been fired after admitting to having downloaded copies of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard from the Internet that were distributed to developers at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference two weeks ago. “Dozens” more also face termination.

Mozilla Calendar Test Day: August 22

Japan PC Makers Say No Sony Battery Recall Needed

3 new Apple patents

Information on 3 new Apple patents, including one for managing Internet transactions, another for managing as well as searching metadata, and a third for a display actuator, is now available. Apple’s Internet transaction patent covers an object-oriented approach to develop and manage Internet transactions.

New Record for World’s Fastest Transistor Set at 110 GHz

“According to Professor Peter Ashburn who undertook this research in collaboration with STC Microelectronics, the researchers used a standard silicon bipolar technique with fluorine implants to deliver a record fT of 110 GHz which is twice as fast as the current record.”

AMD-ATI to make a GPU-CPU

“This is the ultimate OEM chip, as it will be the cheapest way to have the memory controller, chipset, graphics function and CPU on a single chip. AMD-ATI engineers will be looking to shift to 65nm if not even to 45nm to make such a complex chip as a CPU/GPU possible.” At least, it won’t be any worse than Intel’s mobile GPUs.

AOL Goes Digging for Gold: Massachusetts’ Next Big Dig

In an effort to collect on a $12.8 million dollar judgement against email spammer Davis Wolfgang Hawke, AOL intends to dig up the yard of the spammer’s parents where they believe they’ll find buried bars of gold and platinum. While Hawke’s mother says they won’t find anything, she and her husband intend to challenge AOL’s plans in court.
