Happy Happy gaming with ventrilo
Posted on 10.16.07 by templeton @ 12:44 am

Stumbled across www.Freesentriloserver.com when looking for a quick way to setup a vent server for 15 people so we could play some Quake1 and taunt each other. Its a pretty slick setup, no tricks or gimmicks, just first come first serve. Pick a size, location and it sends you the information to login and manage the server, didn’t take long to setup accounts for everybody.

I think we used the server for in total like 6 hours, had zero issues and the premium codecs are something that need to be heard to be believed. Worked perfect with Quake & Battlefield2 (Blew away ingame voice).

If you need ventrilo server for 10-50 people on the cheap (FREE), Definately check out freeventriloserver.com

Blizzard wins bnet loses
Posted on 09.03.05 by templeton @ 2:34 pm

A federal appeals court has ruled that computer programmers do not have the right to reverse-engineer Blizzard Entertainment’s video games to improve their playability.

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis ruled Thursday that federal law—specifically, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act—disallows players from altering Blizzard games to link with servers other than the company’s official Battle.net site.

Affected games published by Blizzard, a division of Vivendi Universal, include titles in its “Diablo,” “Starcraft” and “Warcraft” lines.

S.Korean man dies after 50 hours of computer games
Posted on 08.10.05 by templeton @ 12:09 am

From the “WTF did you think would happen department”

SEOUL (Reuters) – A South Korean man who played computer games for 50 hours almost non-stop died of heart failure minutes after finishing his mammoth session in an Internet cafe, authorities said on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old man, identified only by his family name Lee, had been playing on-line battle simulation games at the cybercafe in the southeastern city of Taegu, police said.

Lee had planted himself in front of a computer monitor to play on-line games on August 3. He only left the spot over the next three days to go to the toilet and take brief naps on a makeshift bed, they said.

“We presume the cause of death was heart failure stemming from exhaustion,” a Taegu provincial police official said by telephone.

Lee had recently quit his job to spend more time playing games, the daily JoongAng Ilbo reported after interviewing former work colleagues and staff at the Internet cafe.

After he failed to return home, Lee’s mother asked his former colleagues to find him. When they reached the cafe, Lee said he would finish the game and then go home, the paper reported.

He died a few minutes later, it said.

South Korea, one of the most wired countries in the world, has a large and highly developed game industry.

Killing over virtual gold, leaving babies to die while playing WoW, now this. I guess this is what happens when you have professional starcraft leagues broadcasted on local television.

Is that a WAD in your pocket?

Handheld devices & cell phones are many times more powerful than early PC’s. (including mine) So why not do the things you did then now, and keep it with you all the time? I got PacMan on my treo, but its not .. DOOM! . Portable devices and Doom. Sounds like the rock, paper, scissors of the future.

Microsoft pushes Xbox 360 in Japan
Posted on 07.25.05 by templeton @ 11:38 pm

Microsoft said on Monday that the Xbox 360 launches in Japan and Europe will come during the holiday shopping season this year, a move that could be seen as an attempt to get a head start on market-leader Sony. Redmond had already committed to launching the next-generation console in the United States sometime this fall.

Sony, which controls over two-thirds of the gaming market, currently plans to launch the PlayStation 3 in spring 2006. By reaching a worldwide market several months earlier than Sony, Microsoft may be able to cut into sales of the PS3. Price may also play a part in the selection process – SCE president Ken Kutaragi said during last week’s PlayStation Meeting that the PS3 will be “expensive.”
